FileMaker
Pro 4.0
What's NewInternet/Intranet-Savvy
Use FileMaker Pro 4.0 to instantly publish and/or customize FileMaker Pro databases on the Internet or intranet. Built-in HTTP support and CGI functionality delivers:
Instant Web Publishing -- Provides direct access to FileMaker Pro 4.0 databases to search, edit, delete and update records via a Web browser such as Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer. Database info is shared without the need for a Web server.
Custom Web Publishing -- Easily link customized FileMaker Pro 4.0 databases without needing separate CGI software. Claris Home Page 3.0's new database connectivity Assistant makes CHP 3.0 the perfect complement to FMP 4.0 for tying Web pages to back-end FMP databases. FileMaker Pro 4.0 can serve HTML templates containing GIF or JPEG images, animated GIFs, QuickTime movies, AIFF files or Java.
Store GIF / JPEG images -- When a GIF or JPEG image is imported, the GIF or JPEG image is stored in the database. If the "Store Compatible Graphics" option is checked, a PICT version is also stored. When FileMaker Pro 4.0 sends an image to a Web browser, it sends a GIF or JPEG image. If one is not available, the stored format is converted on-the-fly to JPEG for display, even if it is not stored as JPEG in the database.
Info Management Made Even Easier
Use a host of new database tools to take full control of your information:
Excel Import -- FileMaker Pro 4.0 databases can easily be created directly from Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, specifically Excel 97, 5.0 and 7.0 (Windows); Excel 4.0, 5.0 and 7.0 (Mac OS).
Sorted Relationships -- Allows users to create sorted portals (views into other FileMaker Pro files).
90-degree Text Rotation -- Text and fields can now be rotated in 90-degree increments
(0, 90, 180, 270) but will display in unrotated form when the text or field becomes the active object (i.e., when the user clicks OK to edit in Browse mode).
Most Recently Opened Files Displayed -- A new General Preferences option allows users to display a list of the most recently opened files under the FILE menu. The number of files that can be listed is between 1 and 9 and can be turned off completely.
Define Value Lists in File Menu -- Value lists can now be defined from the FILE menu instead of doing it via the FIELD FORMAT option.
Field Content Match -- The Field Content Match search method has been added to Find mode to allow searching for the exact value in a field.
