New Design

To conceive and plan out in the mind

To have as a purpose

To devise for a specific function or end

To make a drawing, pattern, or sketch

To draw the plans for

To create, fashion, execute, or construct according to plan

It takes these steps and more to create a functional database. Oh, databases can in some instances, using FileMaker Pro, be created in mere minutes, but these on the fly solutions seldom last long enough to work efficiently and produce results in the long run.

Careful planning, much like building a building is the key to good database design. This will entail the input of ideas from the top management to the data entry clerk.

Often designers begin by turning on their computers, and end up by having painted themselves into a corner when the client reminds them what they wanted to accomplish in the first place. Good designs take time up front, but the rewards are well worth the investment of the time.

As a database developer, it is my job to develop a system that is easy to use and provides the users with the functionality that they need.
