Existing Design

Existing databases are most often needing "fixing" because the initial design was flawed. The planning was not complete and now the performance of the database is tangled with fields not used, scripts not working and layouts abandonded in search of still another new idea.

Sometimes, in stories such as this, it then comes to the moment when, to add one more needed or desired features, you have to reconstruct from scratch.

Often, the reconstruction can be avoided. It can take a little extra work to determine what the designer was trying to accomplish, but once that has been accomplished the original goal of the database design is clearly within sight.

Databases By Design has been successful in making modifications to databases developed in FileMaker Pro 2.1 as well as improving on the operation of files developed in 3.0 and 4.0 as well.
